Animal lovers go here and sign...

Please sign this petition the protect the right of animals to live their lives free from cruel abuse!

If you know me, you know that I usually keep my opinions and causes to myself. However, I am a fervent animal lover (and sympathizer) and I feel strongly that animals need champions whenever possible. If you have a moment please go to the link provided below and add your name to the petition. Your signatures and comments will be shared with the district attorney in charge of prosecuting the person who recently cruelly abused and killed Mercy, a pit bull puppy, here in North Texas.

A little push can sometimes tip a scale, so your time would be most appreciated. The signing process can take just under a minute.

Thank you

Don't Fear the Reaper

Thanks to my new fav show Supernatural (in the recent episode "Faith") I've recently been exposed to the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult. And I love it… love it…

And actually, given that the main characters listen to nothing but classic rock as they roar down dark and littered highways from city to city and paranormal event to paranormal event, I've been repeatedly exposed to songs that I had forgotten I loved (or never knew I loved, like the aforementioned...)

Anyway... apparently lyrics are big for me these days. And after listening to it a dozen or more times, I've discovered that this song isn't just a great tune but actually a cool little story (and not to get too meditative… perhaps a BOC assertion that souls aren’t lost at death but simply become a part of the universe - like the wind and the sun and the rain.

Regardless…this song rules and all must hear the story….

Don’t Fear (the Reaper) - Blue Oyster Cult

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind the sun or the rain (we can be like they are)

Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby I'm your man
La-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la-la

Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
40,000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness)
Another 40,000 coming everyday (we can be like they are)

Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby I'm your man
La-la-la-la-la la-la-la-la-la

Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone

Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared (saying don't be afraid)
Come on baby (and she had no fear)
And she ran to him (then they started to fly)
They looked backward and said goodbye (she had become like they are)
She had taken his hand (she had become like they are)
Come on baby (don't fear the reaper)

Montreal with the Mission District

Watch the video

March 23rd and 24th

As the last of our travels we visited the lovely city of Montreal to film the band, the Mission District.

Check them out on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/themissiondistrict

While there we also met with M-C Turgeon who told us about the Montreal music scene and shared her home, art and the companionship of her cat, Lilo... M-C has a fantastic podcast about the Montreal music scene to which you may subscribe. http://www.mcturgeon.com/blog/

And a posting isn't complete without a strong recommendation for Beauty's Luncheonette. We somehow found ourselves eating there twice in the two days we spent in Montreal. The french toast was the best I have ever had. Jeff would say the same thing about the Blueberry smoothie he had, as well. Ask for Chantale and say "hi" to Larry while you are there! And get a maple syrup to go... Its wonderful! http://beautys.ca/

Lily is dancing on the table....

How can you say what a song means to you...listen to this song and dance....

Tori Amos -
Taxi Ride (Scarlette's Walk)
lily is dancing on the table
we've all been pushed too far
i guess on days like this
you know who your friends are
just another dead fag to you
that's all
just another light missing
on a long taxi ride
taxi ride

and i'm down to your last cigarette and
this 'we are one' crap
as you're invading
this thing you call love
she smiles way too much but
i'm glad you're on my side, sure
i'm glad you're on my side
still

you think you deserve a trust fund
just because you want one
sure you talk the talk
when you need to
i fear the whole world is starting to believe you
just another dead fag to you
that's all
just another light missing in a long taxi line
taxi line

and i'm down to your last cigarette and
this 'we are one' crap as you're invading
this thing you call love
she smiles way too much but
i'm glad you're on my side, sure
i'm glad you're on my side
still

lily is dancing on the table
we've all been pushed too far today
even a glamorous bitch can be in need
this is where you know the honey from the killer bees
i'm glad you're on my side,
sure
i'm glad you're on my side, sure
i'm glad you're on my side
still

got a long taxi ride
got a long taxi ride

California Flowers

Watch the video

It’s a cold springtime in California but spring, nevertheless. This mini movie has some shots taken with my RAZR phone of the flowers we saw on our recent travels to Venice Beach and Pasadena.

Included for your listening pleasure an excerpt from Somewhere Over the Rainbow / What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole available on iTunes.

Venice, California (March 5th, 6th, 7th)

Jessey & Thomas

Watch the video
We arrived on Sunday the 5th in lovely Venice, California. After some travails with the GPS system we finally found our hotel - the fabulous Holiday Inn Express. Unfortunately when we arrived the desk clerk was nowhere to be found...so after a period of waiting we decided to grab something to eat in hopes that when we returned we might get into our rooms. (We think the desk clerk was in the back watching the Oscars.)

Anyway, after a very fair meal at Islands Hamburgers we returned and finally got into our rooms. The movie is a a delightful (eh hem) tour of the Holiday Inn Express in Venice California…included simply for videoblogging posterity…

--

This trip was a rich and full one - we shot two subjects during our visit - Our first (March 5-7) was with the excellent design shop helmed by Jessey and Thomas of
http://www.stolen.la/

Anyway I am waiting for photos from the other members of the team to create a quick photo blog of the haps...but a quick summary follows...

Met with Jessey and Thomas for breakfast at Figtree’s Cafe on Venice Beach http://www.figtreescafe.com/ – The food was fantastic. The view was amazing. And issuing from a bench adjacent to our patio seats, we enjoyed a serenade of Beatles classics from a performer wielding a acoustic guitar. This stop is highly recommended if you plan to visit Venice. The morning was grey and so was actually a great one for an outdoor beach shoot. We set-up on a turquoise lifeguard station and plied Jessey and Thomas with our introductory 20 questions...During that segment, Jessey and Thomas quickly laid to rest our fears that they might be quiet and hard to draw-out. These guys have an abundance of personality that will definitely show on the footage.
In the remaining time we had with the guys on Monday and Tuesday we got some more great interview footage and then additional coverage in their home/office and at a photo shoot for an MTV Europe project. You can watch the Jessey and Thomas segment at http://www.inspirethenewlife.com/ (when it becomes available in April)

Memphis Documentary Trip

Watch the video

This video includes a few photos from our recent Memphis Trip.

For your listening pleasure...
Dr. "Feelgood" Potts
Song: "Bluesin and Cruisin" (Available on iTunes)

When watching the video keep in mind that we have hours and hours of footage taken with the official camera...these represent ONLY those events of which I alone took photos / video... meaning....we did actually work too (ROFL)

A quick rundown of the coolness of this trip to visit with Ryan Thompson (AKA Synide) of MLG

We arrived on Sunday night and found our way to our hotel (the Radisson Inn at the Memphis Airport). After stowing our luggage we bundled up and traveled to Beale Street - the birthplace of rock n roll, I hear. The friendly policeman on the street HIGHLY recommended that we eat at the Memphis City café for dinner so we did – the ribs were fanfreakin’tastic.

Then we continued onward down the neon-bedecked street to a couple of clubs where we heard the musical stylings of the Dr. "Feelgood" Potts Band and another (unfortunately misremembered) band at the nightclub adjacent to the Memphis City Café. Great times were had by all.

Bright and early the next morning we met Ryan for breakfast – he was a great combination of quiet personality combined with raucous aggression (when playing Halo). I hope all our candidates will be as organized, accommodating, succinct and friendly as Ryan – we couldn’t have asked for a better subject!

We bugged Ryan for a couple of days shooting at a local coffee shop (Empire Coffee), Ryan’s home and home office (the amazing Exchange Building downtown) and through an eight-person Halo Xbox LAN party (as hosted by Ryan and roommate, Ryan.) Keep in mind that the footage won’t reflect much of the latter parts of the evening after the affects of the beer started to become apparent…

BTW…It was amazing how a LAN party is a LAN party whether in Dallas with your friends or in Memphis with a whole ‘nother group of friends you never knew you had. The similarities are amazing – it must be the constant stream of testosterone that flows when eight men gather around a video game.

We wrapped up the interview segments with Ryan by mid-day on Tuesday and traveled the city on foot and by car over land and bridge. (Ask me about, how we got the shot of Memphis from the bridge over the Mississippi – a bridge-o-phobic should never traverse a bridge without a seat belt, holding the side door open while another hangs out the car door and another holds that person by the belt….)

A visit to the gates of Graceland then another rib-adventure off Beale Street capped the shoot for our team. Exhausted, full of red-meat and ready for sleep we wrapped up the day at 10 pm on Valentines Day by falling into our sleep-number beds at the Radisson.

Notable unmentionables:
- Phil & Jeff and dancing with the girls from Memphis City Café
- Lost, lost and lost ....again ...and again
- Phil & Jeff attempting a southern dialect with their Chicago accents
- The very tall van and the very short parking garage
- Phil & Jeff on the cleanup crew for all food available on the table
- The proliferation of panhandlers in Memphis - Egad. Do NOT talk to strangers on the street if you can help it.

The colors shine

Watch the video
Sometimes music is sometimes best enjoyed alone… Not much beats listening to a CD in your car with the wind whipping in your hair and your thoughts a swirling…
At night this is how the road registered on my RAZR phone. I thought it was a very cool effect. Song - Coldplay "Yellow"
OK after swearing that I wouldn't do this again, I tried to replicate the effect last night and couldn't. Realized the effect was related to the density of the night and the water on the road...

Chicago Shoot - KidStatic - Sunday the 5th

No one should have to greet the dawn in Chicago..

It was cold...

To pass the time waiting for our car to the airport, I spent some time chatting with the doorman at the Intercontinental. He was super-cool!

Unfortunately I don't remember his name but I did get a photo of him in his styling uniform.

Then - lo and behold we were picked up in a stretch limo. We relaxed all the way to O'Hare...

All shoots should be so lovely.

Chicago Shoot - KidStatic - Saturday the 4th

We woke up bright and early and went to the Hot Spot for breakfast. Stacy the owner met us at the door and from the moment we arrived took FANTASTIC care of us. And the food was great.

Thanks Stacy! http://www.planet99.com/chicago/restaurants/15011.html

From there we went to meet with Stephen Hitchock's house and did a quick interview segment of Stephen and KidStatic planning the upcoming video shoot for the song Barnyard. Check him out at http://www.hitchcockmedia.com/

After that we did a little tour of the city and shot photos from the van.

Then on to Moses' house for the final wrap up and a thrilling band practice session with the Cankles. www.thecankles.com

When we wrapped the shoot, Evan and I were free to wander so we hit the Magnificent mile. This time we ate at Cafe 1011.

We had some fantastic coffee and desserts - Evan had a chocolate layer cake while I had creme brulee.

Then we text messaged with friends for a bit (kudos to Corey for being so txt message responsive) and finally hit Borders bookstore before heading back to the Intercontinental.

Waiting for our table

this is an audio post - click to play

Chicago Shoot - KidStatic - Friday the 3rd

Following are some shots from the trip - taken with my RAZR phone - the stars of this three day featurette are Evan and myself.

Friday the 3rd - arrived and went to dinner @ the Grand Luxe Cafe

The walls are adorned with Klimt-esque artistry. We were floored by the beauty of the restaurant.

The bread was fabulous. Evan really liked his martini. We ordered the beignets and they arrived in a mound...Far too many for two full people.

The food was good. the patrons were young. The waiter was funny. Recommended.

Check out the audio blog we posted while waiting for our table. (in the next posting)

Blogging and Podcasting

New hump in the the continuing saga of videoblogging R&D...just got a video ipod with the grand plans to get my awesome cat and first documentary videos (snicker) and watch them on my very own video ipod....but I cant figure out how to do it...

Itunes asks me for a URL when i try to add my video blog - so i added http://elissanne.blip.tv - k - that doesnt work

then i tried a blogger account http://annieee.blogspot.com/

that didnt work either...i think perhaps that blip.tv and blogger arent feeding the info in a way that Itunes can process it (starting to feel like you have to be a nuclear scientist to figure this stuff out)

Have been trying to learn how to VLOG for work
So this is my first movie compiled entirely of movies I took with my new phone and other crap I found on my computer to make something more watchable than Adrienne talking to a speakerphone

It sucks and I know it, but I’m proud anyway

You do not know the lengths I had to go to pull this sucky documentary together

that being said...here 'tis...don't expect much this first time round

So...i guess you can post with photos when you are at your machine...sending my from my email didn't work

Blog, AudioBlog and Vlogging

K – slowly making R&D progress. Have now successfully sent movies from my phone to my computer, converted the file so that I can edit and create a movie AND successfully sent and posted an audioblog to my blog site! (i.e. recorded a voice message and posted it to my blog)

NOW have learned that most blog sites wont store video and photo files for free…imagine that! Have to pull these from some external hosting location…

AudioBlogging is free, however…nice… go here and learn more http://www.audioblogger.com/faq.html
